It was obvious as soon as I clicked on the photo.
That's a novel approach to solving the perceived short comings of the direct impingement system of the AR system...

First, what in the world would inspire that actor to put his thumb on the fake forward assist?
What a brilliant AR15 / AK47 hybrid hack job! Looks like they used a milled AK47 receiver, and cut a notch out of the front so the AR15 barrel would look better on it. It was probably easier to do this with a milled receiver. They then cut the magazine well off a late model AR15 and welded it on. Selector has been sawed off, fake forward assist glued on. It's amazing what Hollywood comes up with!
But why, why go through all of this time, trouble and expense to hack together an AR15 and AK47, when real AR15's are so easy to come by, and aren't particularly expensive?

First, what in the world would inspire that actor to put his thumb on the fake forward assist? Could be a new method of bump firing, or maybe that's the only way he can hold that cobbled up turd together.
But why, why go through all of this time, trouble and expense to hack together an AR15 and AK47, when real AR15's are so easy to come by, and aren't particularly expensive? I answered that question in my first post, "Hollywood; Why ask why."
It's a real shame they hacked up a milled AK receiver.
Thanks for the photo Perro. That's classic.

Another one of millions of flaws hollywood has done with firearms and movies.
