* After action report and match results by English Andy.

Mud Duck came up with a new idea for this months match. All four stages had bonuses, but the shooter decided which to attempt and had to call each shot. The bonuses depended on either the size or distance of the target, or the shooting position. All stages had choices for either 1, 2 or 3 points. Three minutes max. and ten rifle rounds on all stages.
Stage One was the tie breaker and started with the grenade toss. Then there were three different size targets at 200yds. Shot off hand.
On Stage Two there was a body/head target at 200yds. for 1 or 2 points and then a 300yd. target for 3 points. Shot from sitting position.
We shot from prone position on Stage Three. Targets at 200, 300 and 400yds. scored accordingly.
Stage Four had one large target at 400yds. The shooter decided between prone, sitting or off hand position to determine the bonus. For the six pistol rounds, we had a choice of the dueling tree (1 point) or a small pig silhouette (three points).
For the sniper side match we could shoot from any position, but could only engage the hardest target on each stage for a single point.
Possible high score of 145 (main match) and 65 (sniper match).

January ViMSAR Results

Nice and calm and in the mid 60's, a perfect day for shooting.
Stage One, the tie breaker, started with the obligatory grenade and bayonet toss, and then six pistol rounds at the Texas Star target. Bonus points for shooting the pistol single or weak handed. We finished off with sixteen rifle rounds from standing position at a 200yd. head/body target.
Stage Two started with two rounds of soda can grenades from a blank firing SKS, trying to hit the 'ammo dump'. Then we had three swingers at about 250yds, each with a hostage target beside it. Sweep the targets, sixteen rounds, but don't hit the hostages. Shot from sitting position.
Stage Three was shot prone, starting at Port Arms. This was a timed stage, 45 seconds, alternating between two targets at about 200 and 300yds.
On Stage Four we had to shoot the Tommy gun at the dueling tree with six rounds and then engage a 400yd. head/body target with ten rifle rounds. For the sniper event, only head shots counted.
Joe Brennan won both the main match and the sniper side match. Good shooting, Joe !
Possible high score of around 157 !!

Our squad would have posted better scores had the "grenade" not broken. As you know, we were forced to use a painted rock... ;)

I had a great time despite my dismal performance, and I very much enjoyed our "de-briefing" after the match. I hope to make it again next month!

June ViMSAR Results

It was a little windy early in the day, but it calmed down a bit by mid morning. Mud Duck set up five stages with plenty of props.
Stage One, the tie breaker, had us bayonet a hay bale after the traditional grenade pitch. Then ten rounds from sitting supported, engage a small target until hit and then move to a bigger target until missed. And repeat.
On Stage Two, we had two chances to blow up a fuel depot with our rifle grenades. Then ten rounds, Nevada Sweep, at three swingers, from sitting supported.
We shot Stage Three from prone position, sweeping targets at 100, 200, 300 and 400yds. Ten rounds.
We had an eighteen second maximum time on Stage Four. As many rounds as possible, sweeping three targets.
Stage Five started with six pistol rounds at the dueling tree and then ten rifle rounds at a single target. All targets had hostages around them.

Possible high score of around 72.

We were a little cramped this month, as we only had use of Range Six. Mud Duck set up four stages. Each stage had ten rifle rounds and started with a roll of the dice for a random bonus of 1, 2 ot 3 points.
We had a 2 minute maximum on Stage One, starting with the grenade and 'hawk pitch, and then shooting standing at a 175yd. target.
Stage Two was also 2 minute maximum and, we had three 200yd. targets to sweep from sitting position.
Mud Duck gave us 3 minutes on Stage Three, shooting prone supported at three targets at 125, 200 and 300yds.
Stage Four was our timed stage, and started with us wiring a trip wire to a grenade. Then six pistol rounds at the dueling tree and engage three 200yd. rifle targets in a Nevada Sweep fom any position.
This months sniper match had us engaging one 400yd. target at each stage from any position, but the targets got smaller and harder as we progressed.

Possible high score of 68.

A great day for shooting, warm with just a light breeze. Mud Duck set up four stages for us.
Stage One, the tie breaker, started with the grenade toss and then eight rifle rounds at two 175 yd. targets, shot from behind two barrels, any position.
The Stage two target was at 200yds. and had a central bullseye. Eight rounds from any position, bullseye hits counted as three points.
We had four targets on Stage Three at 100, 200, 300 and 400yds. From prone position, we had to sweep them twice from front to back.
Stage Four was multiple choice. Pistol could be shot two handed, one handed or weak handed. Points were 1, 2 or 3 depending on your choice. Rifle position determined your points. One for prone, two for sitting or kneeling and three for standing. Six pistol rounds on the dueling tree and then sixteen rifle rounds, starting with a must hit target at 200yds. and all remaining at a 350yd. target.
We also held the sniper side match, same rules as the main event.
Possible high score of 113.

We had four stages this month, and Mud Duck pulled out all the novelties for this one.
Our tie breaker, Stage One, started with the grenade and bayonet pitch, and then trying to burst two balloons with one pistol bullet, using an axe head. Finishing off with ten rifle rounds at two 200yd. targets, from standing position. Snipers shot from any position.
On Stage Two, from sitting position, we had to sweep four targets at 100 and 200 yds. with ten rounds. Snipers had two targets at 300 and 400yds.
Stage Three was shot prone supported sweeping four targets at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yds. with ten rounds. Snipers had to save their last shot and try to pick off a dime at 100yds.
We started Stage Four with six pistol rounds on the dueling tree. Bonuses were scored for one hand or weak handed shooting. Then ten rifle rounds, sitting supported, at a single 100yd. target, with a bonus for hitting the center 'flapper'. Snipers had to save their last round for a head shot at 'The Colonel' in a bunker at 400yds.
Possible high score of 91.

Wow! A gun that wouldn't run, a killer headache, plus I took a DNF when I left early. Better re-check the scores... I didn't finish last?

Godfather sorted out the problems for me, so I hope I can try it again at next month's match.
Who says the SKS isn't a capable weapon? I think Joe could use a sling shot and still beat me.

We had a good turnout on a sunny but cool day with only light winds.
Mud Duck set up four stages, all with ten rifle rounds, starting with:
Stage One, the tie breaker. First the knife throw and grenade pitch. Then alternate between two 175yd. targets from standing position. Snipers could use any position.
We shot Stage Two from sitting position. Two 200yd. targets between three 'don't hit' hostages.-1 points for every hostage hit. Snipers could use support.
There were four targets on Stage Three, at 100, 200, 300 and 400yds. Sweep from prone supported position, 2 minutes maximum.
More hostages on Stage Four, on the pistol dueling tree. Six rounds, with -1 for each hostage hit. Then a must hit rifle target at 200yds. and all remaining rounds on a head/body target at 350yds. 3 points for each head shot. Snipers could get an extra bonus by hitting the center flapper on the first target.
Possible high score of 76 (sniper match 78).
Shayne Ramsay won the sniper match with a near perfect match. Only two misses, both with his pistol !!

Another woulda' coulda' shoulda' match for me but I had a GREAT time. The match was pretty straightforward and went by quickly. My guest Mike truly had a blast and can't wait to shoot another match. Thanks to everyone for making him feel so welcome and lending him your years of experience. He's a sponge for firearms information and I know he'll be an asset to our group. Just wait, he'll soon be shooting at an advanced level before you know it.

Unfortunately, I'm working a half day on Saturdays for the next two months, so I'll miss you guys.
Thanks for another great year Andy, and I'll see you soon. Be safe and have a happy New Year!
