Hehe, so thats how I won Sharpshooter... by being the only one in the class! A win by default is a win none the less.

The event was great fun; not a drop of rain and it didn't start to get cold till the end. The wind kept changing direction on us though. Started with a tail wind, switched to a head wind and ended the day with a cross wind. That and once the dirt was chewed up behind the chicken/circle target they were very hard to see.

I need more practice too.

As always, thanks for the match report Andy!

Hehe, so thats how I won Sharpshooter... by being the only one in the class! I don't think it had anything to do with the rifle you used as much as where you fell into the pecking order. I'm not sure how the scoring works in VMRS, but it appears to be based on your score and the total number of shooters. Maybe Andy would be kind enough to shed some light on how the division is broken down by score and we can add that to the VMRS information sticky.

We use the Lewis scoring system for our subgun matches and you don't know what class you competed in until the scores are posted. I'd rather finish last in "A" class than first in "B" class as that indicates you shot a better match. The downside is you don't get a plaque or ammo for finishing last in "A".

I haven't shot this match but I have shot the ViMBAR and ViMSAR matches. Pretty neat stuff huh?! I'm delighted you attended and it seems you enjoyed yourself. Now, if we could get someone to take a few photos of that match... ;)

I need more practice too. Yeah, don't we all?!

Joe uses the three military shooting proficiency levels, Expert, Sharpshooter and Marksman, for the main match. I'm not sure how he works it all out, but I know that if you win your class, you get bumped up to the next one.
The side match IS scored using the Lewis system.
I'll have him write it all out and then we can add it to the sticky.

Oh I had a blast; it was just very surprising to get a medal at the end of my very first competitive shoot ever. Let alone getting 1st place in a class for only landing 10 out of 40 shots. I mean, I've only been shooting real firearms for about a year now. Before that I was just doing Paint ball and shooting bb guns in my youth.

I'm really looking forward to next months shoot. as I think I'm out of town for the next ViMBAR match. Its this weekend right?

And once I scrounge up a semi-auto... even more fun!

Thank your GF for taking the photos and thank you for posting them! We LOVE photos!

I KNOW you had a great time and you're probably hooked afer one match. I know more people would shoot these matches if they just shot one. Winning is great, but just getting out and learning what you and your rifle can do is good enough for me.

So... ViMBAR this weekend? ;)

Wish I could, but ViMBAR is going to have to wait till next month. Going to Brian Head for some snowboarding this weekend.

If you want to try the ViMSAR match next weekend, let me know. I can always bring out something you can shoot. I've got a nice Yugo SKS that you could use. You just bring some ammo ....
