Just wanted to start out a thread introducing myself.
My name is Mike and i have been involved with the Vegas Shooters group since around May 2003 (according to Richard, this is the earliest he has video of me).
i became a part of this group by invite from Rickinvegas from my old forum that i used to run. I attended my first DBS shoot and i was IMMEDIATELY sucked into all the NFA machine guns that the members of the group had. It was a direction that i wanted to pursue.
for the first few years in this group i was able to shoot just about every different machine gun you could imagine. The people in the group were truly generous, and ive had some great times. It always amazed me how you could walk up to somebody who had a $50,000.00 machine gun, and ask to shoot it, and not one person EVER turned me down as long as i had good ammo to offer up.
one of my FONDEST memories with the group was when The Godfather Tony Dee brought out his full auto 1919a4. I was messing around with semi auto 1919s at the time and this was THE gun for me. I remember him letting me link my own ammo, and the fun i had shooting it down range.
It took a while before i could talk myself into making my first NFA machine gun purchase. The cost ALWAYS seemed too prohibitive. A good friend of this group Mike Duke explained to me that i would NEVER regret it, and that it was just like having the money sitting in the bank. i could shoot the crap out of the thing and sell it later on for a profit.
i had crossed the line to where i had cash burning a hole in my pocket and i was ready to buy my first NFA transferable machine gun. I had shot ALOT of different machine guns at that point, and i had it pretty much narrowed down to a mp40 as my first machine gun or a sterling mk4. VegasSMG (Tom) had given me LOTS of time on his Sterling MK4, and i fell in LOVE with that gun, and new i wanted one JUST LIKE IT so i plopped down my cash for a DLO Andrewski sterling mk4.
Mike Duke once told me that my first machine gun was probably both the BEST thing that ever happened to me, but also the worst. It was the best because...... well, machine guns are ALOT of fun
and the worst because INSTANTLY overnight, all those old semi autos that i used to cherish just lost there appeal. Man, he couldnt have been more correct!!
after that came my first belt fed. My 1919a6
i put over 5000 rounds through her in 1 day at the new years day shoot after i got it. The Godfather Tony Dee cemented this gun to my must have list
after that i had seen a 1918 Colt vickers sell for 12k and i had thought that it was the steal of the century!!!
shortly after that i was given the link to an auction that had an identical 1918 Colt Aircraft Vickers gun. I placed a bid quite a bit lower than the 12K that i had previously thought was the steal of the century. I KNEW i wouldnt win the bid as low as i had bid, but i figured i would place it anyway - what the heck
turns out i won the vickers gun at a very good price. Someday i plan to change it over to ground gun configuration so it will hold water and make steam when you shoot it.
and im not finished yet - i recently commited to my next sub machine gun and its sitting in transfer with Doc. Cheney, and the good folks down at HDI.
i love sharing my machine guns with other people! One of the things that i think makes this group so special is there willingness to share there toys, and knowledge with complete strangers!! I like to give back to the group as much as i can because i remember how much fun i had when i was coming up in the NFA world, and im thankful to this day for everyone always sharing there stuff with me.
My tastes are a bit different than most of the shooters i come across - i like the OLD stuff!! (outdated and obsolete as Rickinvegas keeps telling me)
i could not care less about the latest ninja gun with plastic furniture, and all the tactical CRAP hanging off of it!!
When the Vickers gun was ruled obsolete and was about to be removed from service a group of soldiers took all the remaining ammo, and a SINGLE vickers, and a bunch of spare barrels and shot just shy of 5,000,000 rounds without a single failure - non stop 250 round belt after 250 round belt (not in 50 round bursts, but the WHOLE belt) only changing barrels after an hour, to an hour and a half of continued use - not a single broken part - name 1 modern day firearm that can do that??
(from Dolphs book "the grand old lady of no mans land" page 188)
History plays a huge part in it for me as well.
So - that's my story
Hope to meet some of you newer guys. Come up and say hello at one of our shoots, and if you bring quality ammo, id love to let you take my stuff for a ride
Mike
