April ViMBAR Results

Cloudy with slight breezes means clear target silhouettes and no mirage resulting in high scores.
A small mishap on range five (Ask Mud Duck) forced a set up on range seven. I think it worked better. The varied terrain with the vegetation gave the match a more realistic look. Maybe we can use this a limited walk around.
There were five stages this month with a total of Fifty rounds of rifle and six rounds of pistol. The April Vmbar incorporated the second Axis powers match which shot the full course of fire allowing the single rifle shooters the opportunity to compete in both the standard match and the Axis match.

Stage 1 was the standard sitting or kneeling position with two targets, one at 200 yards and the other at 300 yards. Shoot till you hit, shoot till you miss.
Stage 2 was prone supported at targets 200, 300 and 400 yards. Shot sequence was 4-3-3 for a total of 10.
Stage 3 was shooters choice, standing or kneeling unsupported at a target 225 yards away. Kneeling = 1 point, standing = 2 points. I think all shooters chose standing. Stage 4 was pistol and rifle from concealment, supported sitting or kneeling. Six shots at a torso sized target 35 yards with the pistol. The rifle stage was timed with 80 seconds for 10 shots at 300 yards.
The tie breaker stage had a grenade toss for 1 point. A twist allowed a missed grenade to be retrieved and a second try with more elapsed time. The shooter then shot from cover alternating between two targets at 200 yards.
Small rule changes: Grenade = 1 point, Bayonet = 1 point.

June ViMBAR Results

The day started warm and sunny, but the light wind increased as the morning progressed. Bill Harty put together five stages for us, staring with:
Stage One, the tie breaker. For a change, we had the choice of pitching either a hand grenade or a horseshoe ! Close didn't count for either, in this case. And then eleven shots alternating two 200yd. targets, shot from prone unsupported.
On Stage Two, we had a wall to use for support from standing position, engaging two targets at 230 and 270 yds. Alternating, eleven rounds.
Stage Three was shot prone supported, ten rounds at three targets at 200, 300 and 400yds. Engage until hit, then move to the next. If you miss, you go back one target.
We used pistol and rifle on Stage Four. Six pistol rounds at a nice big target, but it was about 40yds. out. Then five rifle rounds at a 200yd. target, shot standing unsupported.
On Stage Five, we shot from the bench, but could only use elbow support. Ten rounds at one 200yd. target.
We had our first annual D-Day Anniversary side match. Allied rifles pitted against European Axis rifles. It was pretty close in numbers, with thirteen Allied and fourteen Axis competitors, but the Allies won the day with an average score of 29 against the Axis 26.
We also had the second leg of the 2009 Enfield Award, this time for the No. 4 Enfield.

Possible high score of 60.

It was a good match until these 2 Banditos showed up.

Then The Border Patrol show up to check their papers.

After they were admitted with Student Visas the shooting started.

Then the winners were picked. Remember the Alamo.

September ViMBAR Results

We had a pretty good turnout for our first match back on winter hours. It was a warm morning with a slight shifting breeze.
Jim and Bill set up five stages, starting with:
Stage One, shot from sitting or kneeling unsupported. Six rounds at a 200yd. target and then six at a 300yd. target.
We had three targets on Stage Two, at 200, 300 and 400yds. Starting with the closest and engaging until hit. Then move to the next. Shot from prone position.
On Stage Three we started with six pistol rounds at a rather generous, but distant (50yd.) target. Then from off hand position, the shooter could engage either a large target for one point per hit, or a smaller one for three points per hit. Ten rounds, both targets at 175yds.
Stage Four was shot from sitting supported, ten rounds at a single 300yd. target.
Our tie breaker was Stage Five, starting with the bayonet toss. Then ten rounds at a tall but skinny 200yd. target. Shot from the bench.
Possible high score of 85.
Steve Franks won the Enfield Award match. This leg was with the No.5 (Jungle Carbine).

November ViMBAR Results

Very light winds on a cool but sunny day. Bill Harty set up five stages for us, starting with:
Stage One, the tie breaker, started with the grenade pitch and then ten rounds at a single 190yd. target shot standing unsupported.
We fired ten rounds on Stage Two from prone supported position. A shoot 'til you hit, shoot 'til you miss scenario, with a large and small target at 225yds.
On Stage Three we had three targets at 200, 300 and 400yds. Shooting from kneeling supported we had to sweep the targets from front to back with ten rounds.
From sitting or kneeling unsupported on Stage Four, we had to alternate ten rounds on two 250yd. targets.
Stage Five started with six pistol rounds, five at the dueling tree and then one more at a 50yd. target for a 3 point bonus. At the last pistol pistol shot, we had 90 seconds to fire five rifle rounds at a single, skinny, slanted 300yd. target.
Possible high score of 56.

A cold, rainy morning kept all but the hardiest away, but Jim and Bill adapted four stages so we could still have a match. All stages were ten rifle rounds. Starting with:
Stage One, the tie breaker. Shot from the bench at a small 175yd. target, then the grenade pitch for a 3 point bonus.
We shot Stage Two from sitting or kneeling supported position. Starting with a single 225yd. target, engage until hit, and then all remaining rounds on a skinny, slanted 300yd. target.
There were three targets on Stage Three, and we fired three rounds at 200, three rounds at 300 and four rounds at 400 yds. Shot from prone supported position.
Stage Four was shot from sitting or kneeling upsupported, alternating between a small and large target at 200yds.
